Dutch Kills Gallery is pleased to announce an exhibition of the paintings of Kendrick Mar. His work investigates childhood emotions. The darkness of these primal feelings is depicted with humor and pathos. Doll-like characters inhabit hazy narratives that are informed by memory, family dysfunction and issues surrounding being adopted.
Kendrick Mar attended the School of the Art Institute of Chicago where he received his BFA in 2000. His artwork appears on the album cover for the UK-based band Moral Soul, and has been shown at the FUEL Collection in Philadelphia. He lives and works in New York City.
The Shooting Star Experiment of Lights is Kurtis Kouns, a New York City based composer/performer who uses guitar and pedal effects to create a multi-layered array of ambient melodies and sound loops. The unique performances stem from ideas deeply rooted in the celestial spirit world.
Joyful Sonic Wash is an improvisation group based in NYC and Hudson Valley. They create an experimental urban tribal music from a mix of electric and acoustic sounds using sitar, saxophone, guitar, percussion, voice and electronics.
Dutch Kills Gallery is a new contemporary exhibition space situated in the rapidly evolving artistic hub of Long Island City. In addition to monthly exhibitions by gallery artists, programming features performances, screenings and other events. The gallery is located in the historic Silks Building, presently home to visual and performing artist spaces and small businesses. Nearby are numerous museums, galleries and restaurants, as well as the scenic Long Island City waterfront.
